The Brown Girl Dilemma is more than the name of my website. It represents my commitment to making room for Black women’s voices, experiences, beauty, and humanity. Giving that name to a book is a special moment for me, and I am delighted to share it with you.
I wrote this book because our stories deserve attention. There is so much to say about how we see ourselves, how others see us, and the expectations we carry. Writing gives me a way to open those conversations and invite readers to reflect alongside me.
If you have enjoyed spending time here at The Brown Girl Dilemma, I invite you to take the next step and discover my work in book form. This is an invitation to readers who appreciate thoughtful conversations about Black women’s lives—and to anyone willing to listen, learn, and consider another perspective.
Rather than simply tell you about the book, I would like to share a little of its writing with you.
A Look Inside
“Black women are too often left behind in areas where we need
recognition, opportunity, protection, and support. Yet we are special. We
have gifts, ideas, creativity, intelligence, and beauty deserving of
appreciation. We also have needs. Celebrating our strength must leave
room for our exhaustion, our grief, and our desire to be cared for.
This book makes room for those truths together. Its pages explore
identity, beauty, relationships, family, faith, and the emotional weight of
navigating other people’s expectations. They also make room for joy,
ambition, affection, and the lives we hope to build. There is no single
experience that belongs to every Black woman, but there is value in
listening closely enough to recognize both our differences and our shared
concerns.“
