1. Develop Self-Awareness

Self-reflection is the first defense against toxicity. Journaling, prayer, or therapy helps you identify negative habits like blaming, criticizing, or manipulating. Psychology emphasizes “emotional intelligence” (Goleman, 1995), the ability to recognize and regulate your emotions while understanding how they affect others.
